Clients in Calbourne Road, Balham, wanted more room for their growing family. We created a new roof extension containing a study and bathroom.
At the back of the house we built a modern kitchen extension. Full-size glass folding doors opened onto a decked-over garden, seamlessly bringing the outside in. We laid a limestone floor in the kitchen and granite worktops.
The entire three-bedroom house was refurbished with new electrical and plumbing installations.
We refurbished the family bathroom with Victorian style tongue and groove wooden panels with a freestanding cast iron bath.
The cellar was deepened to create a utility room. A combination of the British climate and London clay means that many basements have problems with damp.
We overcame this by using an innovative method of lining the walls with an cavity drain membrane. Behind this we installed a pump which noiselessly drains off any excess moisture.
The watertight membrane is compliant with BS8012. We then covered it with plasterboard, plastered and painted, and built stairs down to the newly-created space.
The family were delighted with their new, enlarged, light and spacious home.
